The young midfielder James fires the Welsh team to important World Cup qualifying victory over Liechtenstein.
Wales secured a narrow 1-0 success over international minnows Liechtenstein to keep alive their chances of World Cup finals progress.
The young midfielder scored his debut goal for Wales from inside the box after the home side's assorted collection of professionals, office workers and students had resisted for more than 60 minutes. James wheeled away in elation with his clear emotion mirrored by the large contingent of Welsh fans packed into three sides of the venue in Vaduz.
Moments later, though, Jordan James was shown a yellow card and another late caution for his midfield partner ensured the two players are ruled out for the upcoming decisive game with North Macedonia through suspension.
The Wales' ground contest is a clash Wales need to win to overtake North Macedonia and secure a better draw in the playoffs in March.
The Wales manager had an unfamiliar perspective from the dugout, the Wales manager completing a technical area prohibition after picking up a further caution in the competition last month.
Bellamy’s deputy Cremers took his place in the technical area and four of Wales’s starters – James, Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Neco Williams – were a booking away from sitting out the concluding match. Two of them came unstuck in moments that may damage Wales.
Liechtenstein, placed 206 out of 210 teams in world football, had been goalless in their previous six losses and conceded 23 times at an average of almost four per match.
The visitors unsurprisingly controlled the ball as their hosts lay in a deep defensive line and defended in numbers.
Liechtenstein's net saw little action until the forward's high press won possession and Jordan James saw his attempt from the edge of the box pushed aside by Benjamin BĂĽchel.
That pairing crafted an opportunity, Jordan finding Broadhead on this occasion with a precise delivery over the top.
Broadhead’s superb control took him past the keeper but the forward was unable to score from a difficult angle.
Wales believed they'd taken the lead after 26 minutes when James nodded a lofted Sorba Thomas corner back into a congested six-yard box.
Büchel was under pressure by Dylan Lawlor and Rodon, and his weak punch fell to Broadhead who finished powerfully. But Wales' celebrations were cut short when the referee was directed to the VAR screen and determined that at least one of the Welsh centre-halves was in an illegal position from James’s header.
Wales stepped up a gear after the interval and Sorba Thomas delivered a centering pass to the back post which the winger hit the crossbar.
Williams then missed with a header from inside the goal area as it began to look like one of those nights for the Welsh side.
But, with the game having reached its final half-hour, Neco Williams delivered a shrewd pass for Daniel James to get in behind the opposition backline.
Daniel James bypassed BĂĽchel with a delightful cross along the six-yard box, and his teammate Jordan James had the easy job of relieving Welsh nerves.
